Ok, here is my second introduction for my first novel. This is Soryn Llyr, one of my favorite characters I have ever created. He is my secondary main character in this story, which I am writing in first person. With each chapter I am switching between Rowan, and Soryn.

Soryn (1)

Soryn Llyr

Home: Oakdale

Age: 18

Posture: Straight and ready to fight.

While Sitting: Rarely does he ever fully relax, only when he is with someone he trusts completely, which is rare.

While Standing: He stands straight, with his arms crossed over his chest. He is always alert for danger and ready to spring into action.

While walking: Quick and agile, with a swift sure step.

What you notice first: His calculating black eyes that often appear to be measuring you up as potential danger and his cocky smirk.

Background

Place of birth: Brockhelm, the capitol of Azeroth.

Places Lived: Brockhelm is where he lived most of his life surviving on the streets, and then Radcliff where he lived with his uncle, Odif the horse trainer.

Parents: His father was Svengal Llyr, the captain of the royal navy. He was a giant man of northman blood, with blond hair and deep blue eyes.

Siblings: Soryn has a stepbrother named Lyst. Lyst is a year and a half younger than Soryn, but took after their father and is already double Soryn’s size. He has his father’s blond hair, but his eyes are a faded out pale blue grey. He hates Soryn, much because of his mothers prompting, and was often bullying him.

Childhood Experiences: Soryn is the unwanted son of Lord Falcon and Niki. He doesn’t know who his parents are until he is much older, and it causes attitude issues for him. He was raised by the captain of the king’s navy (opposing Falcon), but the captain never told Soryn that he wasn’t really his son, and always treated him well. Soryn’s step mother however, hated Soryn, and would always pick on him and torment him. She often encouraged her own son, Lyst, to torment and beat him as well. The captain died when Soryn was 8, and not long afterwards, Soryn was driven to the streets by his stepmother and stepbrother. He learned fast the ways of the streets, and had soon fought, clawed, scratched and bit his way to the top. The other street urchins learned to leave him alone, and so the only thing he had to fear were the guards and his stepbrother, who always made it a point so give him a good beating if he managed to catch him. When he turned 17 and could no longer live on the streets without being noticed by the guards, he managed to find his uncle, the captains younger brother, who lived in Oakdale and trained horses.

Education: He was well educated up until the age of eight, after that the only education he received was that of street survival. His uncle taught him to handle horses, walk softly through the woods, and to shoot the bow for hunting

Special training: Street survival, working with horses, archery, and moving silently through the woods. His father used to teach him about ships before he died

Travel: He traveled on foot from Brockhelm to Oakdale

Friends: He has no friends and trusts no one

Greatest Success: Staying alive and finding his uncle.

Characteristics: Proud, mischievous and daring. He has lightning fast instincts, and a quicker temper. He is distrustful of strangers and grudgingly loyal to his friends.

Markings (scars, warts, ect) physical or mental: He has many small scars from his days on the streets, and his heart will always be scared from betrayal.

Special Skills or knowledge: He is always the first to sense danger, and is always the first one prepared to fight. He is very knowledgable about the inner workings of the cities, and all of the backstreet ways. He can throw a knife extremely well, and is a fare shot with the bow. He also knows a lot about the sea, because of his father.

Collections and talents: He is talented with horses and enjoys their company. He is also very good with the throwing knife. He has a foot-long dagger that his father gave to him when he was a boy, somehow he managed to keep it.

What people like about him or her: When you at first meet him, you don’t like anything about him, and he doesn’t like you, but after you get to know him he is very fun to be around. He has a quick wit and a sense of dry humor that everyone loves. He is also very mischievous, and always heading off onto daring adventures. He is loyal to his friends, albeit somewhat grudgingly. He never leaves a friend behind.

Interests and favorites: He loves the sea and ships, they remind him of the happy days when his father would bring him aboard some of the ships he commanded. He also loves horses, and enjoys their company. His most precious possession is the dagger his father gave him, the only thing he has left of his father.

Favorite Food: Soryn will eat anything you put in front of him except mushrooms.

Favorite drink: Anything, although he enjoys sneaking sips of ale

Favorite music: He hasn’t heard much music in his life, but he enjoys it when he does hear it.

Favorite books: He learned to read when he was very young, but ever since he stopped lessons at eight he could care less for books

Favorite Sport: Wrestling, racing, archery, horseback riding, any test of strength, and swimming.

Favorite recreation: Riding his horse or shooting his bow.

Dislikes: Strangers, being noticed, being stuck inside, and rain

Place of birth: Ha-Nuel, Falcon’s capitol.

Places Lived: The family lived for a time in a small cottage in a meadow, but Falcon discovered it and attacked there, so Brogan moved them to Oakdale, where they have lived ever since.

Parents:

Her mother Aswyn was a noble’s daughter who lived in Almaria. She herself is part elven by blood. She was captured by General Brogan.

Her father, Brogan was a highland chieftain’s son. On the outside they look like simple barbarian shepherds, but the chieftains have descended from a long line of berserker warriors, and are greatly feared. He was 25 when he met Aswyn. Since then he has become a merchant and does what he can to hide from Falcon.

Siblings: One sister, Ella, who is 12 years old and Rowan’s greatest irritation.

Childhood Experiences: The first memorable experience in Rowan’s life was when she was eight, when she attacked Falcon, and because she caught him by surprise, (his attention was on killing Aswyn) she was able to drive him back long enough for her father to arrive and chase him off. Not long after that, they moved to Radcliff and Rowan had many adventures in the secluded valley and forests where they lived.

Education: She has been well educated by her father, but was always more interested in the outdoors than her studies.

Special training: She is being trained in the arts of swordsmanship by Sir James, who was her father’s friend from the war, and happened to be there when she drove Falcon out of her house at sword point. He saw that she had unusual skill with the blade, and has been training her ever since.

Friends: Soryn and Atokad, who live in “The Encampment”. They are her best and most trusted companions.

Greatest Success: When she disarmed and chased Falcon out of her house when she was eight.

Characteristics: She is fearless, untamable, unbroken. Though she is very unaware of it, she is a natural leader.

Markings (scars, ect) physical or mental: None yet

Special Skills or knowledge: She is quick and agile and completely at home in the forest. Few can match her skill with the blade and she is an extremely good shot with the sling.

Collections and talents: She uses the sword that Falcon dropped the day she attacked him, which is one of the best, being made by the elves. She also has a flute that is of elvish design that belonged to her mother’s former life as a noble’s daughter.

What people like about him or her: People like her strength, determination and loyalty. She never gives up, even when it looks hopeless. She is a natural leader, and people look up to her because she is fearless and strong in the face of great adversity.

Interests and favorites: Her favorite colors are the colors of the forest: greens browns and blacks. Not only is she extremely good at the sword, she has a passion for the sword. She becomes a different person when she has her sword. It becomes and extension of who she is.

Favorite Food: The food from the local tavern of Oakdale

Favorite drink: Fresh brewed apple cider

Favorite music: Any music but especially elvish music and that played by Galien’s fiddle

Favorite books: One could no more choose a favorite star in the heavens!

Favorite Sport: Sword fighting by far

Favorite recreation: Sitting in a tree reading a book, riding her black mare through the forest, slipping silently through the forest in pursuit of game

Dislikes: Sewing, staying inside, being ignored, and being thought of as weak because she is a girl.

Well, there you have her!!! Let me know what you think of her!!!

I am a Writer

I am a writer. I have been writing stories since I was 12 years old, and it all started because my grandma had my brother and I try to write a short story, which I thought was a silly idea because just a normal girl like me would never be able to write like all of my favorite authors did. But as I began writing, something happened inside of me, it was like a dam burst open and I began to write! I fell in love with seeing the worlds of my characters coming alive at the tip of my pen, (for it really was a pen back then) and creating the world, culture, history, and personalities of my characters. I admit, my first story was seriously lacking when it came to most of these aspects, but I got the point, and I was in love. I have never stopped.

Since I began attending college a year ago, finding time for my writing has been very difficult, but I have never stopped thinking about the worlds that I have come to love so much, and every time the opportunity arises, I visit them!

Now I would take a couple of minutes to introduce each of my stories to you, so that you know what I am talking about when I post about them.

The Azeroth Trilogy (only a temporary name until I can find one more fitting)

Main Character: Rowan Oakley

Secondary Character: Soryn Llyr

Story Line: 10 years ago, there was a terrible battle between the peoples of Azeroth (also a temp name)  and the dark elfin lord Falcon. Falcon lost the battle, but eventually won the war by kidnapping the young king. 10 years later Rowan Oakley is living happily in a secluded valley, but her father’s involvement in the war has finally caught up to him. Falcon sends a force to capture him, but they get Rowan instead. Rowan is taken prisoner, and meets the king. They escape together and make it back to the valley, which is the hiding place for the Alavar, a group of soldiers that have resisted Falcon’s rule and are awaiting the return of their king. Falcon is getting ready for war, and the Alavar don’t have enough men to resist him, so Rowan and Soryn go in search of the long lost race of elves.

The Legends of Mithren

Main Character: Imelda

Story Line: Ok, this may be weird to you, but all of the characters in this story are parrots. It is about a family of cockatiels that get captured by an evil force of parrots who are in league with ravens, very evil birds.  Most of the family is enslaved, but Imelda, one of the daughters escapes and joins the parrots of Rowden Valley, an ancient refuge and home to some of the greatest legends of all time, Rocco, Cackusola, Hrothgar, and Dagmar, the princess. There is a battle, family is reunited, so on and so fourth… The last time I actually worked on this story was about 5 years ago, so it is due for some updates.

Erin Go Bragh (temp name)

This is actually the same story that I started when I was 12. I have saved it all these years, and have recently began to develop it and work on it again.

Main Character: Evelyn Barras (temp name)

Story Line: It is set in Ireland in 1846-7, during the time of the English occupation and the potato famine. The main character  is a girl of 17, though she acts a lot older. Her mother is recently dead, and her father is away is the big cities looking for work. That leaves taking care of the other children, and keeping their home from the eager hands of the English landlords, all up to her. She gets some help from her childhood friend Aiden and her 12 year old brother. Everything starts to go wrong when she finds an English soldier wounded in a ditch.

My most recent story (I don’t have a name yet)

Main Character: Gabriel Moreau (I have to put pics of these because I don’t have much else to give you right now)

Secondary Character: Dahvey – a slightly insane but completely loveable elf

Story Line: I don’t know much about this one because it is only about a week old. it is set in Renaissance, catholic France. Gabriel is a half elf, and his best friend (Dahvey) is full blooded elf. The catholic church is persecuting the elves and other fantasy creatures. Gabriel’s mother managed to keep his heritage a secret, even from him, until he met Dahvey. Now he is being hunted by very well trained assassins called “the Hunters”. It is similar to a Van Helsing story, but from the hunted creatures point of view.

Well, that is all I have for you today, I have a class at college soon, so I’d better go. I hope you enjoyed the short introduction to my crazy mind! I will do some character intro sometime in the near future!
